24 root vectors of a Lie algebra? that sounds like a 24-cell to me.

also, the 16-cell is explicitly mentioned as "hyperoctahedron".

Actually, I did not pay attention to the descriptions.

It seems I can recognise some 4D shapes just by looking at their 3D ->2Dprojections

cool, sometimes I do that too. but you always have to be careful, because sometimes these projections suffer from illusions, so they may appear to be something else than they seem to be. :)

The 24-cell, or rather its cell-centres, form units of a quarterion number set, so also 8.

The vertices of 48 and 120 class-2 quarterion units of modulous 1.

You find also 6d and 8d things on that same site, sometines 5 and 7 too.
